Power BI
Power BI is a dashboard tool for presenting data that's easy to use and has the most users compared to other tools for the same purpose. Its key strengths are its ability to link data to any database, its ability to set up automated operations, and its very affordable price of only 5,796 baht per year.
Or if you're still unsure, you can download it for free directly from Microsoft. If you're used to using Excel to create graphs, you'll be able to use Power BI in less than a day without any training.
There are many types of licenses available. Users should study or consult an expert before deciding to purchase.
What is Power BI?
- Data analysis software is a Microsoft service that is available on an annual rental basis. After the rental is complete, you will receive two packages: Desk Top and Pro.
- We can create reports both on the desk and on the cloud. However, currently, the desk-top version has more reporting capabilities than the cloud-based version. However, it is not certain that in the future, the cloud-based version will be even more capable.
- If we are familiar with Excel Pivot Table, the usage is similar and there are more powerful tools such as data size support, it will be better supported (Excel can receive data around 100 MB but BI can support up to 300 MB per file). For the size of the database in the same set, the maximum according to the spec is 1 GB.
- It has a Cluster Model for data analysis that Excel Pivot Table doesn't have.
License type
- Desktop ( Download Free )
- It can do everything to replace Excel Pivot Tables easily.
- Unable to share to the web
- You can send files via mail to others, but it is not convenient.
- Version Pro
- You can share your desktop to the Portal for your friends to view.
- Price is approximately 5796 per user / year.
- Included in Microsoft 365 E5
- Version Premium Per User
- Get larger storage capacity from 1 Gb to 100 Gb.
- You can share the Dashboard, but only with Premium users.
- Version Premium Per Server
- Unlimited Users
- There are many more models to choose from, depending on the size of the larger spec.
- Get MS SQL Ent License for Server installation.
- Power BI Embed
- Unlimited Users
- Limited to the size of the performance of each sub-model
- Suitable for organizations with more than 100 View users.

Main Feature
- Present information via the Web
- You can easily share information with other users by simply specifying the email address of the person you want to share with.
- It can support large amounts of data, up to 500MB per file (but the recommended size should not exceed 300MB per file).
- Create a dashboard that integrates data from multiple sources.
- Create filters from data in the same dashboard.
- You can create your own graphs or download them from the Microsoft community.
- On Cloud, you can use the automatic data analysis feature where the system will create a graph that shows the significant relationship of the data, providing an option for studying the data from various perspectives.
- Preparing data in advance can reduce the time required to prepare data for users. The system will create relationships and calculate cubes without the user needing any code knowledge.
- It allows business users to dig deeper into their data and find patterns they might otherwise miss, using Power BI features like quick measures, grouping, forecasting, and clustering. Advanced users have full control over their models using the powerful DAX formula language. If you're familiar with Excel, you'll love it.
- Create stunning reports with interactive visualizations to tell your data stories using drag-and-drop and over 85 modern visualizations from Microsoft.
- Analytics for Create mobile-friendly reports for your audience. Publish from Power BI Desktop to the cloud or on-premises. Embed reports created in Power BI Desktop into existing apps or websites.

Case study without Public to Cloud
Many organizations want to use the service but are stuck due to policies that prevent them from being able to upload it to the cloud. Or sometimes they don't want to pay annually for the license. Is it possible to pay just once?
If you're having this problem, Microsoft has a solution that can solve it for you. That is, you can set up your own server using the Microsoft SQL Ent + SA license set.
For setting up a Report Server using a Microsoft SQL Ent + SA License, it is necessary to know how the Report Server works and how it differs from the one on the cloud.
- The user interface will be the same. The Report Server login will be through the same web page.
- Access is called Portal.
- When we publish a Public Report, we can share this report directly on the Portal page.
- Provides basic data analysis tools that are math models.
Note: It can be used with many types of data, not necessarily with Microsoft solutions such as SAP (DW).
Precautions for Implementing Solution
- Study the size of the data you want to use, because using a pure Pro license will cause data size issues after a period of use. Microsoft Design is able to support a certain size, but if the data is too large, other solutions will be needed to use it to its full potential.
- Data accuracy issues: There is a high possibility that the data we obtain will not match the previous report, due to some calculation conditions that the user may not be aware of, making it impossible to make the numbers match.
- Setting the time to update data to the Portal can be done no more than 8 times per day. Therefore, if we want real-time data, it cannot be done.
- Data accuracy is another difficulty of the project.
- To be fully functional, it must be used in conjunction with SQL Data warehouse.

Questions about Power BI
- Is it free?
- There is a free version available. You can download it and try it out. It's called Power BI Desktop.
- What are the limitations of the free desktop suite?
- There are several issues, the most important being that the desktop doesn't have a portal, which means you can't share data.
- What is Premium?
- Flexibility to distribute reports widely across the organization, without requiring individual user permissions for each recipient.
- The volume and performance are higher than the capacity provided in the service.
- Ability to maintain BI assets within the organization with a report server.
- One Surface API provides the latest capabilities and feature access for consistent embedded analytics.
- What can Premium do? How does it work?
- Premium includes capacity in the service, allocated specifically to each organization. Capacity is backed by hardware managed solely by Microsoft. Organizations can choose to deploy their capacity broadly or allocate it to specific workspaces based on user numbers, workload demands, or other factors, and scale up or down as their requirements change.
- How is Pro different from Premium?
- Premium is a capacity-based license, while Pro is a user-based license. Pro is for those users to publish reports, share dashboards, collaborate with colleagues in workspaces, and engage in other related activities.
- Portal size
- In the case of Pro that comes with Office 365, it will be 10 GB x number of licenses.
- In the case of Premium, you will get 10 TB.
